Here's a little tease to show you some of the finished goodies that will be available for sale tomorrow, 12/1, at www.theoldtatteredflag.com
Mom and I have been very busy stitching, hooking, painting, glueing, etc to put together a nice selection of finished handcrafted items for your home or your loved ones.
We are also having a raffle for the Sheep and Snowman rugs you see.  Visit www.theoldtatteredflag.com and hit the "contact us" button, enter your name, email address and address and say "Merry Christmas" raffle.  The drawing will be December 8th.

The last picture is of a very stunned bluejay who few into our window last week.  He was sitting on the ground and I was afraid the dogs would get him so he let me  pick him up and I set him in a safe spot until he was ready to fly off.  So pretty!!!!

Well, I'm looking at lots of computer work to get all the photos of the finished goodies loaded up to the website, so I better get back to work...

St. Robert Quilt show and more....

Mom hooking at the St. Robert quilt show....

More St. Robert quilt show....

Doh!!!  Busted!!
Things have been very busy here as usual.  On November 17th we were invited to be in the St. Robert quilt show. It was a very nice day and we finally got to meet some or "our" people.  It was nice to interact with ladies who just loved to create.  We have some local ladies coming over this week and are hoping to get a hooking group going in this area.
On the 19th both of our boys and my mother in law flew in for Thanksgiving and we had a very nice week of eating, eating and more eating and just relaxing.  It was nice to see the boys but very sad to say goodbye yesterday at the airport even though they'll be home in three weeks for Christmas.  I'm really a big sap, not one of those Mom's who does well with their kids going to school halfway across the country.  I always said when our boys go to school I want to be retired from the Army and settled so they have a place nearby to come to when they have a break.  Well, things don't always work out that way, do they?  So neat and tidy?

Anyway, don't want to sound like such a downer....we have been very busy working on some finished items to get on the website.  Everything from Dolls, Santas, hooked rugs and pillow, paintings and lots of other goodies so that's why I haven't written much.  Look to the website, www.theoldtatteredflag.com by Saturday or Sunday to find that "just right" primitive gift.  And with that I better get back to work....
So, until next time.......

Ugly gals.....

Here are the first two angels I have finished and I'm really happy with them.  The test for just how ugly and primitive my angels are (which is a good thing) is my husband.  If he is horrified when he sees them then I know I have achieved the right look, and I was spot on with these gals.  They are not pretty angels, we don't do pretty in our primitive world, do we??  Each gal is mounted on a heavy candlestick, with cloth bodies, stuffed and seriously grunged.  The Americana doll has an old stitched table scarf dress and her wings are hand hooked from wool.  She is holding a tin star.  The Christmas angel has a wool dress, hooked wings and is holding real greens in a stained bag with faux berries.  Each one stands approx. 24 inches.  They are bigger than the look in the photo.  These gals will be on sale in the next couple of weeks.
We are furiously working on some finished items to fill up the website.  So far we have stitched some table runners, grungy candy canes with fresh greenery and burlap bows, hooked stars and trees and lots of other good things.  I will send out an email and post when I get everything loaded up.
Next on my list is two primitive Santas much in the same design as the angels above.  I should have them ready in the next couple of days so check back......
Until next time.......

Two new rugs.....

"Trimming the Tree" design all finished!

Close up of the torn, twist strip edging...

"Vintage Golfer" hooked rug, a Christmas gift, ssshhh, don't tell!

Close up of the golfer, nice mottled background...

Love the argyle border....

Prim Wagon.....

Iced Bell jar, looks like a natural snow globe....

As usual, we are very busy here at The Old Tattered Flag.  I've churned out quite a few new designs and as you can see my mother has been very busy hooking them.  I JUST LOVE the new "Trimming The Tree" rug.  The colors we chose are just perfect, and I asked Mom if she would mind if I did the torn wool twisted strip edging for the border.  I think it looks mighty fine!!

Next is a "Vintage Golfer" rug my mother made for my brother who is a golf pro in Florida.  I sure hope he doesn't read my blog!!!  It's a Christmas gift.  Not primitive, but very pretty.  The colors mom chose are just gorgeous.  I can tell you that argyle border was not fun to draw, but I'm sure it was worse to hook, but, what an effect.  It is breathtaking.  I'm not sure if I'm going to offer it as a pattern although I do that a lot of you have Golfers in your family.  If you are interested in the pattern, let me know.

Next a couple things in our yard.  It's very cool here at night, but downright gorgeous during the day with temps in the 50's-60's and nice and sunny.

I've gotten a couple of the Angels done and they are SUPER primitive, not for everyone and especially not for the faint of heart.  I always use to say that if my husband said they were ugly, then I had achieved the right look.  I'll get photos of them on tomorrow.

Until next time.....

Antique Coverlet Punch is done and dolls in the works...

"Antique Coverlet" punch Needle

In the works.....angels and Santas...

Just a quick little blog today to show you that I finally finished the "Antique Coverlet" punch needle pattern.  I grunged it up a little afterward as to me, nothing is shiny and new looking.  I love it!!
I am also in the process of making some Angels and Santas for the holidays.  Keep watching, these are going to be awesome, in my humble opinion....
"Trimming the Tree" is coming along nicely, Mom is almost done with it, but she had to take a break as her hand is bothering her.  I told her to get back to work, but she didn't listen.................just kidding.  But, it is looking good.  I'd rather have her take a few days off from hooking instead of doing damage to her hand.  Problem is she is addicted and doesn't want to stop.
Thanks to everyone who ordered my sister's Santa's.  They were all gone by 10 am.  She is going to try to get me more, but in the meantime, if you'd like to get in touch with her directly, please feel free to email her at: lbkmt@hotmail.com
Getting back to work....
Until next time.......

Prancer is finished and look at that Eagle!!

"Prancer" just finished by Mom!

Is this not the most beautiful thing you have ever seen??

Ok, I have to be honest, when we were color planning "Prancer" we wanted him to have a vintage, antique rug look.  As Mom was hooking him I worried that we chose the wrong colors.  I loved the Old Thymey Persimmon around the border but was worried about the Antique Black.  Well, no longer.  It is soooooo old looking.  Mom says frequently that sometimes you have to stand back from  your rug and take it in and that is what happened with this one.  I just love it now.  Pattern is available on the website, kit will be available shortly.

On Saturday we were driving out to Crocker, MO to check on our booth in our favorite antique store and both of us hollered "Look!!".  I quickly turned the car around and snapped a few photos of this guy.  I have never seen an Eagle that wasn't in captivity and was almost speechless.  He was so beautiful and it made me so happy to see him freely sitting in the tree.  Beautiful!!!

Until next time..........

"Rug Hooking Santa ~ Christmas Tree Pattern"

"Christmas Tree pattern" close up

Yay!!  I got a surprise this morning when my sister called and told me she had 4 Rug Hooking Santa's for me to share.   I have just uploaded them to the website in my "Odds~n~Ends" section.  If you want one, go there now and get it because there are only these FOUR available and only ONE with the draped flag.  She did that one to resemble my Santa 2012 pattern that I recently released.
I will tell you that these pictures do not do these Santa's justice.  When you see them in person, you just can't believe the amount of work that goes into each and every one.  The "patterns" are made from paper clay that my sister has made to resemble burlap.  She then painted the "pattern" on.  In each of the baskets are pieces of fabric and wool strips, all made from paper clay, as well as a miniature rug hook.  The detail is amazing.  Each Santa is completely hand sculpted from a lump of wet papier mache.  The process is time consuming and detailed.  If you'd like a special Santa made for yourself, please feel free to email her directly at lbkmt@hotmail.com
Until next time......

More new things.......

"Fraktur Eagle"

"Trimming the Tree" hooked rug pattern
Wools we have chosen for "Trimming the Tree" Hooked rug

"Trimming the Tree" for punch needle
Just a quick blog to show you some more new designs.  I just finished hooking "Fraktur Eagle" last night and am so happy with it.  I wanted the tan to resemble the old stained paper frakturs are done on and it sure does work.  It is our Old Thymey Tawny wool, the red around the shield is our Rusty Nail.  The pattern is available on the website.
Next, I've had this design in my head for some time.  I mean really, you can't get much more primitive than a sheep and crow decorating a tree.  See the colors we've chosen for the rug.  The background will be our treasure chest gold, which is the grungy plaid gold.  The sheep will be the grungy off white next to the red and the maple sugar will be the star and Christmas balls on the tree. The crow's star will be red as well as the garland around the tree.  Love it!!  I also made it available for punch needle.
"Trimming the Tree" for hooking or punching are both available on the website now!!
Mom and I are heading to the Antique store tomorrow to check on our booth, then on to Lebanon to check out the Heartland Antique Mall and probably some lunch.
But keep checking back as we are really on a roll with great new things.
Until next time......

"Santa 2012" Wool Applique Pattern

"Winter Blooms"........following in the tradition of "Fall Blooms", a nice seasonal rug pattern....

Just a quick note to show you some new patterns at the website.  If you received my newsletter these are old news, except that "Christmas Crows" is now finished.  Didn't it come out beautifully.  Later today I will be adding the "Fraktur Eagle", "Prancer" and "Christmas Crows" punch needle patterns to the website.  Well, I'm off to the post office, keep coming back as we are churning out new things fast and furious to provide new things for you to create for the holidays.
Until next time.....
