A Wonderful day...

Ahhhh, the Sunday after our Christmas open house.  I haven't taken my sweats off all day and that includes the trip up to our favorite primitives store Gunn's Corners.  We had a great day yesterday and I was floored by the turnout.  I had invited a few artisans to set up in our home.  We had Fran Chevier here with her crafts, Krista Mitchell with her beautiful jewelry, Nancy Mossing here with her stunning Theorem painting and my sister Lisa Evans here with her awesome Santa's and amazing folk art boards.  We had people enter through the shop where they were welcomed by Josh, Marcky and Tyler....

Great job Debra!

...then they continued on through the house to do a little shopping with our artisan guests....

Then into the kitchen and pantry where my friend Amy put on an amazing spread of Christmas cookies and other goodies for our guest.  My Mom's friend Prudy came over from Vermont and helped out wherever it was needed....

To my friend Amy a HUGE thank you.  I have been told that I have a problem letting things go....that I have to do everything....and this year I did let the food portion of our event go.  I asked Amy if she would mind doing it and she gladly accepted.  She did this while working full time and taking a final exam for her degree.  Amy, I can never thank you enough.  Christmas cookies, veggie tray, meat and cheese tray, buffalo chicken dip, taco dip and much more and everything was delicious.  I lost count of how many trips I made into the pantry for a quick snack.

Also thank you to Prudy, what a ball of energy.  She didn't sit down the whole day, conversed with our guests, was another HUGE help to us.  Thank you very much Prudy, see you next year for our next one.  Oh, and Prudy is an amazing artist as well, hopefully next year she'll bring some of her pieces.
We "decked our halls" for the season and invited everyone to tour the home.  Let's face it,  we are all curious about others homes.  How many of us have been driving along at night and tried to see through windows into someones beautiful home?  Come on, you know we all do it!!  There are several stone homes in the area and people are interested in them so it's fun for us to share our home with the community (and with all of you)......

I would also like to thank my son Josh, Marcky and Tyler.  They greeted all of our guests with a friendly welcome and made sure everyone was taken care of in the shop.  I'm proud of all of you for the splendid job you did.

I wish each and every one of you could have come to our home/shop yesterday but since you couldn't, I hope you enjoyed my little blog tour.  May the spirit of the season be with you all.  I say this every year, remember to put your feet up, turn the lights off in your room but leave the lights on on the Christmas tree and enjoy the glow.  Look at a child's face when they first see Santa in the mall.  See the snow right after snowfall when it glistens, have a cup of hot chocolate and a cookie without worrying about the calories.  Us women are caretakers and always want everything to be pretty and everyone to be happy but remember to enjoy the season yourself.  I wish you all a Wonderful Holiday Season!

Until next time.....

After a lot of work, it was a very nice day. Kind of like having a baby, hard, but then after it's all over you forget about the pain when you see the finished product. :) Merry Christmas to you and all the girls!!

About Me

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my blog. I am married and just entering the second phase of my life as a Army retiree's wife. My husband and I did 25+ years in the Army. He is now officially a retired Colonel and has just entered the civilian workforce and I am happily settled in our 1830 Stone house. I (along with my Mom) operate www.theoldtatteredflag and currently we are building a small shop in the back part of the house. We live in Northern NY, right near the Canadian border. I have two handsome sons and 2 puggles. Life is busy for us, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
