Busy, yet not.......

This is the time period in the year that I commonly refer to as "hell week" because we are normally putting in or at least preparing to put in the garden, getting the yard in order while also keeping up with business stuff. But, this year we are not putting in a garden as the house is for sale.  The yard still needs a lot of attention so Mom has been working the flower gardens and I've been tweaking here and there and painting trim, etc.  (no green thumb on me, I leave the plants to mom).
We just found out there is room for us in the Clayton Quilt Show on June 8,9, and 10th, so we have been busy trying to get some wool applique patterns done up and as you can see in the first picture Mom is dyeing some yardage for the quilters.  I think we will be very different from anything up there.  Alot of quilters like us as we are a "diversion" from their quilting projects.  Some ladies like to pick up some punch needle or wool applique or ever give rug hooking a try to break up the monotony (?) of quilting.  We shall see, but we will have a nice selection for them to see.
The second picture is called "Merry Halloween" and is a design by Lori Brechlin of NotForgotten Farm, the pattern is adapted by Kris Miller of Spruce Ridge Designs.  These designs are just fabulous.  A couple years ago Mom did the man to match this lady.  This gal will be up for sale on ebay and/or the website in the next day or two.  Is she fabulous or what?  Mom did great!!
Next is an idea I have had in my head for quite some time that I just got drawn up and Mom jumped right on it.  I adapted an antique coverlet design into a rug hooking pattern.  To say the least this is going to be stunning.  It is approx. 30 inches so will be great as a diamond shaped table rug for a farmhouse table.  Great to hook because it's only two colors, but oh the color combos you could do, red and white, blue and white, black and gold, gold and white, the colors are endless.  I'll add the finished picture very soon and the design will be available for punch and wool applique.
The last picture is my "Dashing...." design that I did last year.  Honestly it wasn't one of my favorites as I felt it was bordering on cutesy and I like primitive more, but, just see what the right colors can do.  I love it!!  He should be popular for the holidays.
So, in between selling the house, preparing for a move, moving my son into his first apartment in a couple weeks, prom, graduation, a freshman going into college, a quilt show, moving....we are plugging away.  We take it one day at a time.....
Until next time....

It is coming along beautifully, a real stunner, I can't wait for her to finish it as well. I am about to punch it and make it a wool applique pattern as well, in blue!!

About Me

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my blog. I am married and just entering the second phase of my life as a Army retiree's wife. My husband and I did 25+ years in the Army. He is now officially a retired Colonel and has just entered the civilian workforce and I am happily settled in our 1830 Stone house. I (along with my Mom) operate www.theoldtatteredflag and currently we are building a small shop in the back part of the house. We live in Northern NY, right near the Canadian border. I have two handsome sons and 2 puggles. Life is busy for us, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
