Bad Sunday...........

We have not had a very good Sunday.   After lunch I went out to the studio to do some work and Baxter came in acting very funny.  I thought he was going to be sick.  He was holding his head down and shaking.  Mom noticed that he was bleeding around the eye.  Well he continued to get worse so we rushed to Springfield, an hour and a half away to an emergency vet.  Sure enough he had been bitten by a copperhead.  He had severe swelling around his throat so it's a good thing we got him there.  Copperheads are the least venomous snakes, but his airway could have been constricted.

So, they gave him a strong steroid dose and dose of pain medicine and IV fluids so he doesn't get dehydrated tonight as he won't feel like eating or sleeping.

On the way to the vet, the swelling hadn't started yet but look how close it was to his eye.

Doped up pain meds on the way home.  Below sleeping soundly at home, but it could be a rough week for Baxter!
Hopefully this week will get better.....
Until next time.......

I just hate this! Please give Baxter a big hug and make sure you spoil him rotten while he is recovering (well actually spoil him rotten everyday regardless) So glad you got him to the vet in time! Hope he gets to feeling better soon!

Poor baby. :( I live in Kentucky and we have had an abundance of Copperheads and rattlesnakes this year, and therefore more snake bites than usual. I have two different friends whose dogs were bitten this summer and one friend who was bitten on the ankle by a Copperhead right on his patio. We have had a lot more rain than usual, but I am not sure that has anything to do with it. I hope Baxter continues to heal and feel much better quickly.

We don't have any poisonous snakes here, just the garter snakes, and when I see one I'm done doing yard work for the day. Hope Baxter feels better soon.

Aww, poor baby! I'm so glad he's doing better! My Ginger was bit by a snake and we didn't know it. Her head was super huge in the area where the bite was. Won't tell you the rest of the story, but we are lucky to have her! She is one lucky dog. So glad your little guy is better and wanting his bone...a good sign! Darn...I missed the sale! Hopefully I will catch the next one!
