Kimmy's Angels

Set of four Seasonal Angels

Spring

Summer

Fall

Winter
Mom finished the last angel today so I thought I'd show them all together.  Simple, yet so primitive and pretty!  These are cute little patterns at 11 x 14 inches.  A nice little project to do and great to switch out each season.  All four will be available as patterns or kits tomorrow on www.theoldtatteredflag.com
I thought they'd be nice as pillows as well with perhaps a torn wool edge??

We are having a pretty quiet weekend.  If we were up in NNY    we'd be stacking the usual 18 face cords of wood right now, but we finally bit the bullet and ordered 1 regular cord for here (we learned that 3 face cords equals 1 regular cord).  We are anticipating a much milder winter here in Missouri than the normal 160 inches of snow we would get up North and not only that but spring actually occurs here in March!! Plus, we have only bought the wood for the fireplace which is really an ambiance thing, although it does make the living room toasty.  I have learned that I love heating with propane as opposed to oil.  Other than that I have hubby connecting a new printer and dvd player in the house so I can stream netflix.  I'm afraid I'm losing the war with technology and have found it's much easier to just have him do it.

In addition to the four angels, some new designs I'm working on are: Winter Blooms, Wool for Sale, Fraktur Eagle, and Prancer.  The angels will also be available for punch very soon as well as the others.  And, in addition to punching the Antique coverlet right now I am hooking the Fraktur Eagle and stitching Santa 2012 for wool applique.  So, as you can, the creative juices are flowing.  We also hope to have lots of finished goodies up on the website in November as well.  So, keep coming back to check what's new and keep the comments coming, I love to hear from you all.
Until next time......

Flag rug pattern/kit now available at www.theoldtatteredflag.com

Hubby's office with the Flag hooked rug.

Antique coverlet punch needle....partially punched, back

Bittersweet!

How neat.............for the birds, but later because I like how it looks inside...

Is nothing off limits Baxter??

Ok, I finally gave into it and decided of make my American Flag pattern available.  Really, it's certainly not "my" pattern, it's "the flag", but, I've had a lot of comments on it and it is very large and not really fun to draw so I understand why people wouldn't want to draw it for themselves.  So, I'm showing photos of it again and how I'm using it in the house because I have added both the pattern and the kit to the website today, www.theoldtatteredflag.com .  It's a big one, but easy hooking and really, how stunning when done....

I'm working on my "Antique Coverlet" punch needle pattern right now and am so happy with how it's coming out.  It's intricate and monotonous at the same time.  Using only two colors makes it very easy, but, there is a lot of detail.  Can't wait to get it done, I'm going to lightly spray mist it for a dyed look.  Check back for pics of the finished project.

Isn't that "corn house" neat??  I got it at my favorite antique store in the area.  It's really meant to be outside, but I like how it looks on the stone fireplace so will leave it there until winter when I'll then put it out for the birds.  Great idea though.

And then what would my blog be without a daily photo of Baxter.  Seriously, the camera just finds him.  I hollered for him this morning and turned around to find him perched on the couch............on the antique coverlet rug!!!  Do your animals feel as if they have to "christen" a new rug??

Have a great weekend!
Until next time.....

Spring and Winter angels

Santa 2012
I've just now gotten into some real "creating and designing" again and it feels so good.  I have 5 new designs waiting to be hooked right now by Mom.  Her hook is smokin'.....

I have to explain the bittersweet picture.  A few weeks ago at the "Best of Missouri" I purchased two bunches of bittersweet because I love to decorate with it.  Well, my mother and I were walking to dogs on one of the trails and lo'and behold, it's growing everywhere here.  But, the clincher is that it snakes up to the top of the tall evergreen trees and then "berries".  So, needless to say, I had hubby in the tree last week.  He's so good to me!

On the same walk I noticed this piece of grapevine growing into a perfect heart, so had to bring it back home.  I plan to wind some more around it to make it a bit fuller.

Next is these huge leaves that are all over, just love fall!!

And then, what would a blog be without a picture of Baxter!! He just keeps us so entertained.  He tends to roam a bit and sometimes I forget about him, so today I hollered for him and went out and there he was, perched up on the wall, as if he was surveying his kingdom.

Last but not least are our angels.  My husbands cousin Kim is obsessed with hooking now and had some beautiful angels hanging in her house.  She has been so good to our son Jeremy in Mass. that I decided to make her a set of angels to hook.  She might make them into seasonal pillows.  Here is the first three in a set of four.  Our fall angel should be done in the next couple of days and all will be available to purchase as patterns/kits.

Keep checking back as we are now in full swing for Christmas and churning lots of great things out.....
Until next time...

A primitive homestead tour.....

I'm not going to write much because really, these pictures pretty much make me speechless, but what I will tell you is that I was getting worried that I wasn't going to find any good primitive places to visit here in Missouri.  I knew they were here because I've been to this state before.  Well, my mother and I found a wonderful primitive Antique shop with a very friendly owner named Dee.  To make things short, we now have a tiny booth in her store, come back to see pictures in a day or two.  And, she told us about her friend Denine who was having an Antique show that we just had to attend if we loved antiques.  This is what we witnessed..................

I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing this place and these people were.  Denine and here husband were so friendly.  They had a pot of chili, some hot dogs and cookies for everyone........for free.  They were obviously gracious enough to let me go crazy with photographs.
This is not a museum, they are just serious collectors who love the simple life.  These cabins were all relatively new.  The main cabin had all the comforts of a modern home, tv, computer, AC.
It was truly an amazing tour and yes, we did indulge in the shop a bit too!!  I thought you'd all enjoy seeing it.  It was in Dixon, MO.
Until next time...............

About Me

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my blog. I am married and just entering the second phase of my life as a Army retiree's wife. My husband and I did 25+ years in the Army. He is now officially a retired Colonel and has just entered the civilian workforce and I am happily settled in our 1830 Stone house. I (along with my Mom) operate www.theoldtatteredflag and currently we are building a small shop in the back part of the house. We live in Northern NY, right near the Canadian border. I have two handsome sons and 2 puggles. Life is busy for us, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
